Update: As Gary noted in a comment, it turns out it looks like it’s going to be Leslie (Image Downloaded Early Monday morning Sept 10) not Michael that visits Newfoundland.
HHHHHHHHHH
Glancing at the news this morning, I noticed the Associated Press headline for today’s weather non-story: Hurricane Michael becomes a Category 3 storm. It may be out in the middle of the North Atlantic, but it’s heading straight for Newfoundland. Yikes!!!!
Just in case you’re thinking it’s time for me to batten down the hatches on my kayak, Newfoundland isn’t besieged by tropical storms. However, since 1775 (somewhat before the era of satellites used to track them), according to Wikipedia’s List of Newfoundland hurricanes, 13 hurricanes have made a direct landfall on Newfoundland (many of them occurring before anthropogenic greenhouse gas-driven computer models were invented).
If you’re wondering what prompted this post, I needed a short break from ENSO.

Maybe this is off-topic, but what is truly frightening (we all have our own fears) is that Bermuda is labelled “Jemuca” on the map above. Well, it doesn’t really frighten me, it just makes me feel sorry for the world’s transient and all-too-malleable intelligence. In other words, I find it flaky.
Harry: Click on the map and take a look at the full-sized version. It reads Bermuda.
Thank you, and I don’t want to drag this out, but the problem still remains, it is “Jemuca” in this version, presented to the casual reader. Beyond saying something like “caveat emptor” (translation: click every link you find, in case someone has covered their ass), I don’t care a whit about the full-sized version in this instance. No offense to you, of course; I respect your work.
You’re more likely to be clipped by Leslie than Michael according to the track projections aggregated at http://spaghettimodels.com/
Gary: Thanks for the link. I’ve never visited there before.
Also thanks for the setup, but I am not going to say that I’d rather be clipped by Leslie than Michael. Nope, I’m not going to say that.
