Do the Adjustments to the Global Land+Ocean Surface Temperature Data Always Decrease the Reported Global Warming Rate?

If you’ve read the first two posts in this series you might already believe you know the answer to the title question.  Those two posts were:

March 2016 Global Surface (Land+Ocean) and Lower Troposphere Temperature Anomaly Update

This post provides an update of the values for the three primary suppliers of global land+ocean surface temperature reconstructions—GISS through March 2016 and HADCRUT4 and NCEI (formerly NCDC) through February 2016—and of the two suppliers of satellite-based lower troposphere temperature … Continue reading

February 2016 Global Surface (Land+Ocean) and Lower Troposphere Temperature Anomaly Update

UPDATE (April 15, 2016): I discovered an error in the model-data comparison and model-data difference graphs (Figures 10 and 11) that impacted only the January 2016 values. The error has been corrected. # # # We recently discussed the February … Continue reading

Meteorological Year (December to November) Global Temperature Product Comparison through 2015

It should come as no surprise that surface temperature products are showing record highs for the meteorological year of December 2014 to November 2015 and that lower troposphere temperature products are not.

November 2015 Global Surface (Land+Ocean) and Lower Troposphere Temperature Anomaly & Model-Data Difference Update.

As you’ll recall from last month’s update, the GISS Land-Ocean Temperature Index jumped upwards more than 0.2 deg C from September to October 2014, assumedly a response to the El Niño.  The NOAA/NCEI and UKMO HADCRUT4 data lag by one … Continue reading

October 2014 Global Surface (Land+Ocean) and Lower Troposphere Temperature Anomaly & Model-Data Difference Update

I’ve added a graph of the difference between the observed global temperature anomalies (GISS LOTI) and the climate model simulations of that metric by the models stored in the CMIP5 archive (used by the IPCC for their 5th Assessment Report).  … Continue reading
